Plunge

Plunge: There is a lot to be said for taking the plunge into something new.

This is often easier said than done however, especially when your brain, which is designed to keep you ‘safe,’ screams out the thousand reasons why it is absolutely the wrong thing to do.

The brain only knows survival and cannot differentiate between a physical, life threatening shift from any other shift that involves you as a person. Whether that be a new place to live, a new relationship or a new avenue with work…

It is a bit like staring at a new swim spot. You ascertain the layout; the rocks that could be dangerous either slippy at the edge, or jagged within the water as you swim. Then despite what your head says, even screams in objection about the cold or how crazy you are, you de-robe and get into the water…

It takes a moment to adjust to the biting cold. Even at 13 degrees air temp, on a misty day the mountain streams are freezing. Then you kick out and find yourself grinning like a mad man (or woman in my case) feeling totally liberated and free.

Taking the plunge physically is the same as taking the plunge metaphorically. You are drawn to the spot, the point of change, you survey the landscape and then you go for it, meeting any discomfort head on…you get used to the climate of the new status quo and sooner or later you feel free and liberated. You get you physical proof that any discomfort was well and truly worth it.

What are you waiting for?

Take the plunge.
