The trail led me up today as I felt pulled to walk above the snow line so, totally unprepared with completely the wrong footwear, I found myself walking within a white wonderland. You have to admit, being surrounded by the mystical silence of the cold white landscape which exists at the top of mountains is magical and other worldly.
Stepping gingerly on ice covered rocks and taking care that each footstep is well grounded and will hold you is certainly one way of bringing your attention right into the present moment, and serves as a reminder that you can use the same technique where ever you are and no matter what surrounds you. Simply by focusing on each forward footstep you automatically ground your energy and focus into and onto the present moment.
A wise teacher, Mary Morrisey, once said that stillness leads to clarity and clarity leads to greater awareness. This is so true. You can attain true stillness when you observe what your body, your thoughts and your emotions are doing and then sink beneath these things to observe your breath. You then automatically are acutely aware of stillness even if you are surrounded by a hub of fuzz and noise.
Its fun to play with and a great way to centre yourself, whether ‘Up’ or not . . .
But as I am, here is my moment of ‘stillness’. I thought that I would share it:
A moment of stillness:
Mystical light subtly infused,
With minds and thoughts of men.
A line of a forgotten past,
When magic held our hands tight fast
And led us through the maze of debauchery,
Of modern perceptions of reality
To a now forgotten space of light
Of fertility, abundance and Gaia’s might
Where dancing among the stars was norm
And humanities freedom never bourn.
Namaste,
