Queen Isabella

Queen Isabella: Morning of talking to the fishies at Sharrah today…

Not sure whether they enjoyed my rendition of Isabella’s song from the new play ‘Stapledon’ however… but given the number of fish jumping and tiny fish swimming around my feet…cant have been that bad perhaps…

So… Medieval Queen Isabella, Queen to Edward. Was she really the ‘She Wolf of France’? or was she simply a lady who bounced back from subservience and abuse during a period when females were not really permitted to have a voice, let alone be a key figure as a ruling power? Did she really love her husband who she has since been accused of having had murdered…but certainly had deposed with the help of Roger Mortimer…?

Some say she did…certainly playing her character in the play has led me to recognise a kindred spirit… a woman embracing her power and finding freedom from situations that were suppressive…

Seems that throughout History women with strength have been able to ‘bounce back’ Isabella perhaps arguably one of the first recorded. She may have since been associated with a scathing name, but secretly I quite like it. What’s wrong with being a ‘She Wolf’ and a leader of your own destiny?

Food for thought…and songs for the fishies…

Namaste
