What If?
What If?: Weird start to the day with ‘half light’ caused by the haze. The air felt heavy as made my way to the river and the midges were out in force, clearly loving the damp dullness. These conditions are rare and are probably my least favourite for going to the river. It would have been pretty easy for me today not to have bothered…even up to the point of getting into the water I was questioning my motives today. ‘Why are you doing this? What is the point? It is not a good day and there is cow poo everywhere (which there was…the final put off)
Still…persisted…walked further down river (away from offending cow traces) and found a spot where the water was deep enough to swim. Even the rocks were not playing ball it seemed…and were slippery with slimy algae that threatened to have me off balance in a moment. Determined not to be put off took the plunge…and presto it all was worth it. Could feel the water working its magic and felt my spirits lifting. Smiling now I thought of the cows along the bank.. figuring that we could share the space…and happy that they weren’t actually ‘in’ the water.
There is a lot to be said for perseverance and keeping on going with things in life, even if at times those things appear to challenge us. Sometimes to the extent that it seems the wrong thing to do. People often ask me, ‘How do I know that these aren’t signs to quit?’ ‘How do I know what my intuition is advising me to do?’
I feel that the answer is … we know if situations potentially inspire or expire us. We know when facing a hurdle, potentially how we could feel should that hurdle be overcome…and similarly how we would feel if we turned away from that hurdle feeling that it was too big for us, too much of a challenge for us to overcome. As such we have a choice. Do or not do.
It is that simple.
So…what challenges do you face? They may feel big…but can you chunk them down into smaller steps? Can you keep the momentum going even though your head puts up so much resistance and finds ‘blocks’ everywhere?
‘Do or not do…’ Allow yourself to think, and feel, the ‘What If.
‘What if I fail? There is no failure…there is only learning…and evolving into new ideas and avenues of possibility… What if I am successful?…then the answer is the same!…learning…new avenues to explore…
There is only ever the flow…all you have to ‘do’ is to step into that fow and allow it …
