Marmalade Cake

Marmalade Cake: Wild rain has left the river awash if that is possible? The banks ankle deep in mud and the rocks as slippery as ice. The world was misty rain and silence down by the river…and to be perfectly honest it wasn’t one of those times when I longed to go in the water… It was almost more automatic pilot than a conscious decision.

Worth it once was there though. The high water is a dream and lapped invitingly with its usual golden brown water against the eddy…a tiny beach for one. I set my intention:

‘Wash away the tiredness …and what has come up for me over the weekend…’

It has been ‘Mother’s Day.’  Mother’s Day is one of the times I find a challenge …responsibilities seem heightened and the awareness of what you are doing single handed can feel over whelming. Sure you may be doing ‘a good job,’ but the self-critical thought process can either let you know what you are ‘not doing’ or can cruelly, all be it not necessarily accurately, inform you of what a lovely time other Mothers are having who are being acknowledged for their efforts on this day in particular…

Sure had a lovely day with the guys…a ‘normal day’ went for a hike and made a marmalade cake. It was one of my ‘let’s make up a recipe moments’ that I tend to deploy when I need to put my energy and head into another mind-set when it is in danger of slumping. Cake was a success. It was scrummy and got demolished by the guys after our walk.

So…the river was ‘needed’ today and worked its magic…

…as got out of the water the sun broke through the clouds…felt like a blessing, the whole world radiant it seemed, glowing  – golden..just like Marmalade! – in the sunlight.
