Getting Out There

Getting Out There for a run when it is fifty mile an hour winds that appear hell set on blowing you off your feet can be a challenge. Today it was just that and for an extra bonus the weather decided that it would really test my metal by throwing a hailstorm into the mix. So it was that I found myself running around the loch leaning into the wind and puffing like a steam train but actually not making much progress, with the hail hitting my face like ice bullets and stinging my skin.

Several thoughts crossed my mind, but none of them ‘bad.’ I could easily have beaten myself up, cursed the weather or told myself it was ‘wrong,’ to be out. But do you know what? I loved it. Being out in the elements clears your head, gets you focused and gives you the chance to connect to nature which for me is inspirational, hail and all!.

Yet it isn’t always easy too get out there and do something different, whether that is to get geared up and go out for a run in a hail storm or something else.

Doing something different takes effort, more so if you are feeling overwhelmed with things, or if you feel tired and lacking in energy and motivation. Many people even feel less able to get out there if they have a choice. The may sound like a dichotomy, surely if you have a choice then it is easy to get out there and do something different? Surely it is not having a choice that keeps us stuck?

Yet this is not actually the case. Think about it. If it is something that you feel that you have to do, get to work, drop the kids at school..then even if our energies kick and scream in objection we get the job done. We feel that we have no choice, that is the ‘routine’

Some people feel that they have no time or space to do anything different. They feel like slaves to this routine and as such feel worn out and have no energy to do anything else, no time, or too many commitments.

It is amazing what excuses we can utilise to convince ourselves that this is the truth and this in turn reaffirms that this is how life is and as such our overwhelm, tiredness or whatever other emotion we are feeling is justified. Yet these are on the whole tricks that our ego plays on us.

Ego is clever and doesn’t want change. Change to the ego is a threat. Change means uncertaincy, it means well…just that…change! We are beings that have a natural survival instinct like every other creature that lives or that has lived on the planet. Fear is instinctual and there is a place for it, if a situation is threatening then fear can warn us through our feelings to stay away, stay safe. Yet ego cannot differenciate between an actual fear where our life is threatened or a feeling of fear caused by something potentially being different in our lives. Have you noticed how you may be inspired to make a change and all of a sudden you feel panic, or you feel that it is too such or that perhaps you will make a fool of yourself..that you haven’t got the time, you feel over tired ….essentially you convince yourself for whatever reason that perhaps after all it isn’t the right thing to do after all.

If you feel out of your depth and feel the array of physical and emotional reactions to this, this doesn’t mean that you are on the verge of a break down, rather it means that you are on the verge of a breakthrough. You are standing on the edge of a threshold to change and if your original idea, the idea that caused you to consider or take the first steps to go in that direction was one that inspired and uplifted you then no matter what you encounter in the way of feelings afterwards it is the right way for you to go!

You are literally on the threshold of positive change for you…it truly is the case of keep moving forward. Shake up the routine, shake up the comfort zone and give yourself the opportunity to expand.

The feelings associated with change may persist. In that case look to process these and understand how and why they are there. Like old out dated programs within a computer that slow up he system and open it up to virus’, outmoded thoughts and behaviour patterns do the exact same thing to you. The audios and coaching that MYnd Space offers is one pathway that can help you release these. Explore possibilities that could help you construct your own ‘defrag’ and as such free yourself up to take on new more expansive experiences.

The first step in the whole process perhaps is get out there. It may not be a run in the hail for you… you may not feel that there is anything in particular at the moment that you are inspired to ‘do.’  If this is the case try getting out in nature and just take it in, allow your mind to drift and see what bubbles up that does draw your attention and inspires you to the next step. Taking back your power and change starts with you… there are all sorts of possibilities waiting for you… so take a breath, be bold and give yourself the opportunity to see…
