Meditation

Meditation: Bright sunny start to the day, but still drifts higher than the car across the moor. All peaceful down by the river. The ground was still crunchy underfoot, ice and snow glistened in the sun and Yellow Wagtails were bobbing around looking for food.

Made for a ‘refreshing’ swim to say the least. Although the water was surprisingly sedate despite all the melt water…and its usual golden brown colour…deceiving…the temperature didn’t match its appearance…be any means!

Was reflecting on an article that I came across this morning about meditation. ‘Science’ proving that it is good for the function of the human brain. Enhancing the performance of the brain and also increasing longevity, memory and improved levels of health.

‘It can increase energy levels and focus, allowing you to tackle tasks and overcome hurdles more effectively and efficiently. It increases brainwave efficiency, activates important parts of the mind, and even changes the underlying structure of the human brain to support greater productivity. Your brain is better on meditation.’

I used to run a meditation circle for people with Parkinsons Disease. I didn’t ever formally record the benefits of the sessions but the participants themselves would describe how they enjoyed the stillness and calm they experienced following the sessions and how noiceably they had improved muscle control and reduced body tremours that are associated symptoms of Parkinsons.

There are so many wonderful ways of meditating… MYnd Space audios aside! Crossed my mind yet again this morning – for the zillionth time –  that it seems such a pity, given the benefits to the body and mind and the fact that it is such an incredible ‘self help’ tool, that meditation is not taught in schools as a standard practice.

Cant help but wonder what an incredible difference it could make not only to individuals, but also to society as a whole…
