Beltane
Beltane: Sparkling sun and bluebells this morning. Spring in the air even if the temperature didn’t necessarily reflect that. The Chestnut mare came to say hello, seemingly to show off her new foal that must have been born in the night…a grey…totally adorable. What with blossom all around and fish leaping…made for a fabulous dip.
New things for Beltane…goodbye to the old…
Somaticizing – soma meaning ‘body’ in Latin. Somaticizing is the stuffing of emotions into the body. Into our tissues. There is a lot to be said for the holistic and spiritual saying that ‘we hold our issues in our tissues.’ We have on the whole been trained by social etiquette not to display raw emotion. In addition to that, perhaps because it is ‘not done’ we judge that strong emotions are revealing of a weakness of character and judge ourselves if we feel them. So…We hold back the tears, any anger or frustration. We squash and we squeeze these emotions holding them instead, deep inside of ourselves.
We then try to ignore them. We avoid them through distraction. Placing our attention onto external stimuli, people tend to turn to food, smoking, alcohol… they numb out…telling themselves that they are OK and they keep on going…hoofing the burden of emotion around with them.
Numbing out works for a while. But because the emotions and thoughts haven’t been worked with and faced consciously your body starts to remind you that they are there. They become ‘pressure in your body. Headaches… trouble sleeping…weakness and fatigue or even chronic illness.
We have all done this to some extent. But it is a drag. It depletes your energies and takes the zest and joy out of life.
Perhaps you aspire to change things, but you emotions have become so deeply entrenched that you don’t know where to start…or worse, have given up hope?
Change can come in an instant however. It can begin with the conscious acknowledgment that you aspire to change. It begins when you make the decision to let go of the burden that you are carrying around… to be mindful and conscious of what is going on for you…and to take back your own power.
It is never ever too late to do this.
Never ever too late to change.
And so…into the water. Yes it feels freezing…but after the shock of the cold and the sharp in take of breath…it feels amazing. Truly amazing…and being in nature and part of the natural flow, serves to remind me of the bigger picture. We are more than emotions and thoughts… they are not our masters and we do not need to be slaves to them.
Let go and step into the flow of your life.
Life is short…make it a great one.
Namaste
